Catherine Ann Donnelly (nee Deegan) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 25, 2018 at the age of 83. She was born May 14, 1934 in Perth Amboy, NJ and graduated from St. Mary's High School. In 1955 She earned a degree in History from Barat College of the Sacred Heart in Chicago, then worked at the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC. In 1958 she married LtCol Joseph A Donnelly, USMC (ret.) who predeceased her in 2006 after 48 years of marriage.
Both well-travelled and well read, she had an infectious passion for learning that inspired those around her. Her extended family and her faith were her passions, traveling far, wide and often to stay connected to family. She drove countless loads of her children's friends to school games, regattas, and other outings around the state and beyond. A devoted parishioner of St. Peter's Catholic Church since 1971, she was the teen choir director, a lector, and active member of the perpetual adoration group. She was also actively involved in Beaufort Little Theater, the Scottish Clan Douglas, and the USMC 1-9 Unit Reunion Group.
She is survived by five children, Margaret Ann Donnelly, Mary Catherine Dubois, Elizabeth Donnelly, William Joseph Donnelly, and Brian James Donnelly, as well as 8 grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Rosary will be held Thursday April 5, 5 pm -7 pm at Copeland Funeral Service - One Copeland Drive in Beaufort. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held April 6th, 12:30 pm at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Lady's Island, with a burial at the National Cemetery in Beaufort. Reception will follow at St Peter's Church Hall. A Memorial Service will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church on Folly Beach on Tuesday, April 24 at 10 am.
