BEAUFORT - Adelia C. Gay, 89, of Beaufort, South Carolina and widow of Jimmy T. Gay, died Friday, August 22, 2014, at her residence.
Born in Jenkins County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late John C. Clifton and the late Carrie Bell Newton Clifton. Adelia was a member of The Baptist Church of Beaufort, where she was a member of the Faithful Friends Sunday School Class. She was Past President of Beaufort Civitan Auxilary, 1961.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John Wayne Gay.
Adelia is survived by a daughter, Adelia Gwen Gay of Albuquerque, NM; three sons, James Lindsey Gay of Winston-Salem NC, Larry Tucker Gay of Wilmington NC, and Jimmie Anthony Gay of Winston-Salem NC; three sisters, Helen Roach of Millen GA, Joyce Oglesby of Garfield GA, and Elene Bragg of Millen, GA; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Monday morning, August 25, 2014, at The Baptist Church of Beaufort. Burial will follow in Beaufort Memorial Gardens.
