Allen Linley Holbrook, 54, of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, July 16, 2019, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
Born on November 13, 1964 in Beaufort, South Carolina, he was a son of Barbara E. Huffman Cooper and the late James R. Holbrook. He received his education at the Beaufort County schools. His passion for his future career was influenced as a youth from living near the old Beaufort Fire Department Station on the corner of Scott and Craven Streets. He began volunteering with the Burton Fire District in the early 1980's and eventually became a full-time Firefighter with the City of Hanahan, Burton Fire District, MCAS Beaufort Fire Department, Parris Island Fire Department, Fort Benning Fire Department, and as a contract Fire Inspector in Uzbekistan until becoming disabled. Allen advanced through the ranks of Firefighter, Engineer, EMT, Lieutenant, Captain, and Fire Inspector. Allen was recognized for his hard work and passion by receiving the National Medal of Honor DOD Life Saving Award. He proudly served the community for over 30 years. Allen met his first wife, Kathleen O'Neill Holbrook, through the fire service and were married on June 10, 1990 in Beaufort. They raised four children together in the Lowcountry. Allen was a great jokester and could always liven any situation. He loved to fish, cook, go camping, play darts, ride motorcycles (Club name was DOB), and more fishing! Allen was always willing and if capable, of helping anyone in need almost to a fault. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His one true love was for his children and grandchildren! They were his world and meant everything to him. Allen will be dearly missed by all whom knew him.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Golden and Bertha Huffman of West Virginia; his aunts, Bonnie Shelton Johnson of North Carolina and Patty Caudill of West Virginia; his uncles, Golden 'Peewee' Huffman Jr. of Beaufort, Duke Caudill of West Virginia, and Jerry Bennett of Beaufort.
Survivors include his children, Kevin Szabo, Kaitlen (Brian) Holbrook-Bonk, Aimee (Sonnie) Claffey, all of Beaufort, and Austin (Kimberly) Holbrook of Kansas; his grandchildren, Taylor L. Bonk, Timothy 'Landon' Bonk, Caroline L. Bonk and Theodore N. Claffey, all of Beaufort, and Alice L. Holbrook of Kansas; his mother, Barbara E. Cooper of Beaufort; his sisters, Janetter L. Moyer (Chuck) of Walterboro, and Teresa Baker of Summerville; his brother, James A. Holbrook (Veda) of Kansas; his aunt, Helen Bennett of Beaufort; many nieces and nephews; his ex-in-laws, Robert (Aiko) O'Neill, John O'Neill, Robert O'Neill Jr., all of Beaufort, Daniel (Donna) O'Neill of Indiana, Lisa Beasley O'Neill of North Carolina, and Paul (Denise) Hagan of Myrtle Beach.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, July 27, 2019, at Copeland Funeral Service ' One Copeland Drive.
A memorial service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, July 27, 2019, in the chapel of Copeland Funeral Service conducted by Pastor Scott Hunter, Chief Darran Vaughn and Chief Harry Rountree.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 Saturday, July 27, 2019, at the Amvets Post in Port Royal, South Carolina.
