She leaves behind a legacy of 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren among a host of other devoted family members.
She is preceded in death by Paul Vincent Thibault (husband), Stephen Thomas Powell (husband), Jeannine Mary Thibault Daivs (daughter), her twin sister Jean Clark Kveragas, and sisters Nell Clawser and Barbara Gardner.
Joy was born in Washington, D.C. on December 17, 1931, to Joseph Albert and Ida Mae Clark. She grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Sparrows Point High School in 1947. Following graduation, she worked as a secretary until marrying her childhood sweetheart, Paul, and beginning their life, family and devotion to the United States Marine Corps. She moved back to Beaufort in 1967, and worked with the Beaufort County School District for 20 years. After Paul’s passing, Joy married Stephen Powell in 1990 and spent the next 25 years in time with their children, grandchildren and never missing Spring Training for the MLB. Joy was a member of the Port Royal United Methodist Church and a devoted volunteer to CAPA of Beaufort. She was an avid reader, puzzler, kazoo player, dog lover and vicious card shark (but never for money). She was a lover of all things sweet and packing her entire family into her home every Christmas Eve. Joy will be missed dearly by her sweet schnauzer, Graice, and all those who loved her.
A graveside service for Joyce will be held 12:00 noon, Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Beaufort National Cemetery.
