Billy (Bill) W. Mixon was born August 17. 1934 in Marion, South Carolina. He was the firstborn son of the late Clara Harrelson Mixon and William Travis Mixon. Bill passed away peacefully on June 10, 2023, at his residence.
Bill attended Fairfax High School in Allendale County, SC and graduated in 1952. He worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Hampton, SC and retired after 36 years as a Senior Production Supervisor. Bill also served 24 years in the Allendale, SC National Guard and retired as a Sergeant First Class.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his youngest brother Steve (Sandy) of Santee, his sister Shirley (Lester) of St. Helena Island, and his brother-in-law Guy Talley, Sr. of Beaufort.
Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Fran Talley Mixon, his daughters Angela LaRue, Jodi Wuttke, Lisa Vaughn (David) and son, Asa Godowns II (Amber). He is also survived by his brother Travis L. (Pete) Mixson (Pam) of Hampton, SC, and brother-in-law Roy Talley (Linda) of Beaufort, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews with whom he was very close.
Bill was a good and faithful member of the Saint Helena Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He was fondly known as Pappa Bill. He went to Haiti on seven mission trips and took mission trips to Nikita, Alaska and Pearlington, Mississippi after hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, and was an avid University of South Carolina Gamecock fan. He would like to be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grand father, and uncle. Bill was also proud of the many friends he had, from all walks of life, and he was a faithful friend to them all.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00, Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at St. Helena Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow. Burial services will be private.
