DATAW ISLAND - Brenda Kay Stripland Houle passed away at her home at Dataw Island near Beaufort, South Carolina on Tuesday, December 9 after a 6 year bout with inflammatory breast cancer. She loved her family, her cats, all the flowers and plants on God's Earth, playing croquet and traveling the world with her husband, Frederic Houle, a retired Delta pilot.
Brenda was born on November 28, 1945 and was raised in Cobb County, GA. She was a graduate of Osborne High School and Young Harris College and spent her working career at Atlantic Steel and Hewlett Packard. After retirement, Brenda's love of plants and flowers led her to the certified title of Master Gardener and to become a National Garden Club accredited Flower Show Judge. She was the recipient of many top awards for horticulture and floral design.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Bailey Hamby Stripland and Pauline Corn Stripland.
She is survived by her loving husband Fred Houle of Dataw Island SC ; sister, Carolin Stripland Jones (husband Stan) of Marietta, GA; niece, Alicia Burnette (husband Brian) of Powder Springs, GA; nephew, Anthony Waldrop (wife Janice) of Savannah GA,; grandnephews: Alex, Cohen, Joel and Alan; and her beloved cats, Bosco and AnnieMae.
