Bruce Sheldon Patterson, 82, died peacefully Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at home.
Graveside service, with military honors, will be February 7, 2025 at 10 am at Beaufort National Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 11 am at the Baptist Church of Beaufort.
Bruce was born on March 24, 1942 in Bremerton, Washington, a son of Clair Lewis and Edith Patterson. He spent most of his early days in Beaufort enjoying Old Town Beaufort. He was a lifetime member of the Baptist Church of Beaufort, serving as deacon and on several committees, attending the Agape Sunday School Class for 50 years. He graduated from Clemson University in 1964 and then served three years in the United States Navy Engineering Corps at the rank of Lieutenant, including a tour during the Vietnam War. He worked for American Cyanamid for seven years and then entered civil service at Parris Island, where he worked over 37 years in different maintenance positions, retiring as Deputy Chief of Logistics at the GS-14 rank.
He was married to Patricia Patterson, who survives him, for 55 years. He is also survived by a brother, Pat Jr. of Ridgely, Maryland. Additionally he is survived by three children, Brett Patterson (wife Stephanie), Eric Patterson (wife Candace), and Joy Patterson; eight grandchildren, Savannah, Piper, Ian, Windsor, Magnus, Atlas, Edee, and Cyril; and additional family members.
He enjoyed playing golf, reading Rafael Sabatini novels, spending time with his family, and winning a good argument.
