Carl E. McCarty, Gunnery Sergeant United States Marine Corps Retired, 87, of Beaufort, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Mr. McCarty was born in Nicholas County, KY was a son of the late Clarence E. and Lucy Bailey McCarty. He was retired from the United States Marine Corps, after 27 years of service, and was retired after 34 years as bridge operator of the Lady's Island Bridge. Mr. McCarty was a member of Port Royal Masonic Lodge #242.
Mr. McCarty is survived by a daughter, Vera Masters and husband Larry of Beaufort; two sons Tim McCarty of Washington, GA and Michael McCarty and wife Lisa of Liberty, SC; three grandchildren and one great-grand-daughter.
The family of Mr. McCarty will receive friends 10:30 until 11:30 a.m., Monday, April 17, 2017 at Copeland Funeral Service.
A graveside service for Mr. McCarty will be held 12:00 noon, Monday April 17th at Beaufort National Cemetery with United States Marine Corps honors and Masonic Rites.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contribution be made in Mr. McCarty's name to Greenville Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605
