Carl Daley McDaniel, Junior passed away on 10 March, 2023 in Beaufort, SC. Born in Little Rock, AR on 15 June 1941 to Carl D. McDaniel, Sr. and Martha Maxwell McDaniel. He attended primary, middle school, and Central High School in Little Rock, AR and was schedule to begin his Senior Year in 1957 when the school was closed by the governor. Carl took a special admittance exam and was accepted to attend the University of Arkansas at Little Rock from which he graduated in 1962. He then furthered his education earning a Master’s Degree from Arizona State University in 1964. Upon his graduation from ASU Carl began his professional career at Southwestern Bell becoming the youngest Regional Manager in SWB history. A few years into his career at SWB, Carl felt the call to return to his education, earning a PhD in Marketing from Arizona State University in 1970.
After earning his PhD, Carl accepted a position to teach Marketing at The University of Texas at Arlington, beginning a career that would last over 40 years. Carl worked his way up to Chairman of the Marketing Department in 1980, a position he would hold for over 30 years. While teaching the next generations of Marketing professionals, Carl wrote dozens of Marketing and Market Research textbooks that became the standard for American university students and students worldwide, selling millions of copies and reaching over 4 Million students with his writing. Carl served as Chairman of the Southwestern Marketing Association from 1984-1985. Carl also worked with the United Nations. For his services to the University of Texas at Arlington, Carl was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award and Chairman Emeritus status in 2010.
Carl met Corinne, the love of his life, in 1992 while on the Matterhorn in Switzerland. They were married in 1997 in a beautiful ceremony in Geneva, and then enjoyed life for the next 30 years spending time between the US and Megeve, France.
After he retired from academia, Carl and Corinne settled in Beaufort, SC making a home and meeting many new friends in the Coosaw Point Community. Carl attended weekly bible study. Carl was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, and camping. Carl and Corinne loved to entertain, hosting friends from the Coosaw Point as well as friends and colleagues from Texas and beyond. Carl and wife Corrine enjoyed traveling, exploring cultures and countries in Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia.
Carl was married to Corinne Orset McDaniel for over 30 years who was the love of his life and the light of his world. Corinne passed away on 21 February 2023 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, leaving a legacy of joy, happiness, love, and friendship to all who were blessed to know her. Carl is survived by his son, Mark McDaniel of Easton, CT, daughter, Michelle McDaniel of Flower Mound, TX, his beloved brother, Maxwell McDaniel of Austin, TX, and his pride and joy, granddaughter Mimi Olson of San Marcos, TX.
A memorial mass for Carl will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lady’s Island, SC.
