Charles C. Lee passed away in his home in Jonesboro, Georgia on Friday, December 19th, 2020. Charles was born November 22,1953 in Beaufort, South Carolina to Mr. P. C. and Mrs. A. H. Lee.
Charles graduated Cum Laude in 1976 with a BA in Aviation from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He then began his career with Wheeler Airlines in Raleigh, NC. He later joined the faculty of Florence Darlington Technical College in Florence, SC and Trident Technical College in North Charleston, SC before beginning his career at the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) in Los Angeles, California in 1991.
During his career with the FAA, Charles represented the agency on each of the 7 continents and retired in 2014 with the rank of GS-14 in the Office of Safety Analysis Evaluation in Atlanta, Georgia. Charles was an instrument rated licensed pilot and owned and enjoyed piloting several aircraft during his lifetime. He was also a certified airplane mechanic and performed all of the maintenance on each of his aircraft.
In addition to flying his aircraft, Charles enjoyed music and was an accomplished musician. During high school and college, he played the guitar professionally with various bands. He later enjoyed playing the guitar as a hobby. His other hobbies included international travel and reading. Charles was a voracious and eclectic reader. He also wrote and published an entertaining novel entitled, "Thrift Jet", which is available via Amazon. Charles enjoyed people, had a great sense of humor and was fun to be around. He had a love of adventure and often on a whim made spontaneous trips to visit friends or relatives or return to favorite places. Charles liked to be busy. After retirement, he earned certification as a Rolex repair technician and repaired watches as a hobby. He also earned certification as an avionics inspector and repair technician and owned and operated an avionics repair facility.
Charles leaves to mourn his passing, his sister, Dr. Carla Lee Daniels of Hopkins, SC; nephew, Matthew Daniels (Sara Nell) of West Columbia, SC and niece, A. Michelle Daniels of Charlotte, NC; aunt, Jerusha Lee of St. Stephen, SC and many dear friends and extended family members.
