BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - Charles W. Mathis, 80, of Beaufort South Carolina and husband of Martha McCloud Mathis, died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Born in Bloomington, Indiana, he was a son of the late Harry Mathis and the late Ethel Pouge Mathis. Charles was retired from Cummins Diesel after 46 years of service. In 1994, he started his own business, Charlies Quick Fix. Charles' hobbies included golf, wood working and NASCAR. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Mathis.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years; two daughters, Iris Wood and Lorna Nelson; a son, Kenneth Mathis; four step daughters, Martha Dill, Linda Stapleton, Susan Beasley and Nancy McCaston; two sisters, Betty Carmichael and Dot Johnson; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, April 10, 2012, at Port Royal United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made to Port Royal United Methodist Church- Post Office Box 218, Port Royal, South Carolina 29935.
