BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - On July 22, 2013 Charles "Chuck" W. Jennings, BMC USCG Retired, 77, of Beaufort passed away after a yearlong battle with lung cancer. Chuck was a career veteran of the United States Coast Guard and retired from the Beaufort County School District. Chuck is preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years Lillian B. Jennings, his mother Niona Kea Pope, his father William A. Jennings, his step-father Donald C. Pope, and his brother Walter A. Jennings. Chuck is survived by his four children Donna Jennings, Christine Jennings Johnson (Jay Johnson), Charles Jennings II, and Michael Jennings (Misty Jennings). His eleven grandchildren Britney Steckley (Robert Steckley), Patrick Jennings (Jennifer Jennings), Meghan Jennings, Kevin Jennings, Michael Jennings, Payton Johnson, Michayla Jennings, Bailey Johnson, Abbey Johnson, Caitlin VandenBark, Preston Bright. As well as four great-grandchildren, Heather Jennings, Patrick Jennings Jr., Carolina Steckley, and Francis Jennings. Charles is also survived by his sisters, Olivia Clark and Ruth Edwards; his brothers Dick Jennings (Libby Jennings) and Jeff Pratt; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 24th at Copeland Funeral Service. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25th at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m., Thursday Beaufort National Cemetery with full Coast Guard Honors. Chuck and his family have requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Legion Post 9's Victory House fund for a new pool table for the resident veterans.
