David C. Austin passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 3rd at his home on Dataw Island. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, June; his children Dan, Tim and his wife Fernanda, and Debbie and her husband Don Griffin. Dave was the first of seven siblings and is survived by three brothers, Tom (Jean) of Canada, Jon (Joy) of Moravia, New York, and Steve (Cheryl) of Weedsport; three sisters Debby and Mary of Phoenix, AZ and Katie of Moravia New York; and several nieces and nephews. Dave graduated from SUNY at Cortland, NY in June of 1956 and married his classmate, June, that December. He enjoyed playing basketball and baseball and went on to teach and coach. Eventually, he became a Guidance Counselor at Port Jefferson Schools on Long Island, NY. His passion for golf began while coaching and traveling Suffolk County with his golf team after school. Upon his retirement in 1995, Dave and June moved to Dataw, an Island of welcoming friends and two beautiful golf courses, which sometimes he played six days a week. A memorial service for Dave will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 28th at Sea Island Presbyterian Church. Following the service, at the Church, there will be a reception.
