David "D.J." Lucas,

BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - David Jennings "D.J." Lucas, Jr. 78, of Beaufort, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Mr. Lucas was born June 21, 1934, in Columbia, S.C.  He was a son of Eleanor Simmons and David Jennings Lucas. In 1977, he retired as a Major after serving 25 years in the United States Marine Corps. After his retirement, he served with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office from 1977 until 1995, the last four years as Sheriff. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8760, AmVet Post 70 and the American Legion Post 0009. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Lucas. Mr. Lucas is survived by two sons, David Jennings Lucas III of Beaufort, and Arthur Simons Lucas II of Hubert, NC; two brothers Richard S. Lucas of Louisburg, NC; and Seabrook W. Lucas of Charleston, SC; and five grandchildren. A memorial service for Mr. Lucas will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 29th at Beaufort Memorial Gardens.
