Dennis Patrick March, age 73, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side on June 27.
Dennis was born on August 9, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY to William P. March and Marie March, nee Franklin.
He lived in Staten Island, NY until age 16, when his family moved to Suffolk County, Long Island, NY.
After high school, he graduated from Adelphi University with a degree in education in 1965.
He was employed by the Smithtown Central School District from 1965-1970, where he taught physical education and coached freshman baseball, basketball, and football.
Dennis was sworn in as a special agent of the FBI on April 6, 1970 and following graduation from the FBI Academy, was assigned to the Boston office from 1970-1971. Dennis was transferred to the Beaufort Resident Agency, Columbia Division of the FBI, and served in that office from 1971 until he retired in June, 2000. He was extremely proud to have the honor of working with the finest, patriotic citizens employed by the FBI.
During his time in Beaufort, Dennis coached youth athletic teams from 1972 until 2000. He was most proud to have coached St. Peters Catholic Church League basketball teams and to have the pleasure of meeting so many great, local kids in Beaufort. Among those he coached were: Leroy, Eddie, Ronzo, Willie, Boyce, Stanley, Earl the Pearl, Lee, Willem, Rodney, Dennis, Darrel, Wendell, Devon, Chris, Jay, Scott, Kenny, Howard, Francis, Derrick, Hal, Ryan, Sammy, Kenneth, Reece, Nathan, Dylan, Gershawn, Andy, Travis, Andrew, Blake and many more good kids.
Dennis was self employed as a Private Investigator as well as a Special Investigator for the FBI doing background clearance investigations from 2001 until March 2017.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jean March, nee Reaber. He is also survived by his beloved children, Dennis M. March (Kathy) of Atlanta, GA; Jeanne March Morrow (John) of Orlando, FL; Lauren March Hill (Chris) of Charleston, SC; Ryan M. March (Kathryn Staab) of Sumter, SC. He has five grandchildren, Sarah age 23, Delaney age 20, and Hannah age 18 (daughters of Dennis and Kathy March), Jolie age 16 and Zach age 13 (daughter and son of Jeanne and John Morrow). He is also survived by his four brothers, William March and wife Flo, Ronald March and wife Janet, Gary March, Gregory March, and his sister, Regina March. In addition he has many cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church on Monday, July 10 at 10am. A reception will immediately follow the mass.
