Deirdre Drew DuBose died in her sleep at home on Monday, September 29th, 2014 attended by her son, Robert, Jr. and her friend, Edna Wolf. Deirdre was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on April 19th, 1932 . She is the daughter of the late Honorable Gerald A. Drew, Ambassador and career diplomat and his wife, Doris Hunter. She is predeceased by her first husband, Major George Sebastian Walz, USMC and her second husband, Robert Edwin Mann DuBose and her two sisters, Judith Wilkinson and Joan Sweet. Deirdre married Major Walz in 1950 and had one child, George S. Walz, Jr.. Major Walz died from polio contracted in Morocco and Deirdre returned to her parents home in Washington, DC. In 1954, she married Robert Edwin Mann DuBose and had three more children, Robert, Jr., Deirdre Mary and Dorian Lee. Deirdre graduated from the Kathryn Branson School in Ross, California and then attended Vassar College on an academic scholarship prior to marrying Major Walz in Amman, Jordan.  In 1952, she attended George Washington University before marrying Robert E.M. DuBose and moving to Sewanee, TN. Robert's career advancement often demanded frequent residential relocations, but Deirdre's childhood as a child of a Foreign Service officer, inured her to moving homes. After raising four children, Deirdre returned to the workplace and for 12 years, she worked for GEICO Insurance of Bethesda, MD and rapidly advanced in the company. In 1982, Deirdre and her husband, Robert, relocated to Beaufort from Washington, DC. Deirdre was greatly fond of Beaufort and the friendly people there. After living all over the world, Beaufort was the only place she considered settling down. She was an active member of the Beaufort French Club. She is survived by her four children, George, Robert, Jr., Deirdre and Dorian, 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to The Shriners, HospiceCare of America or the Mayo Clinic.

There will be a wake from 2 until 5 o'clock Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Hemingway's - 920 Bay Street in Beaufort.
