Donald Richard Meyer, 86, of Dataw Island, died Monday, December 23, 2024 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Donald was born in Algoma, Wisconsin and a son of the late Harold F. and Beulah M. Kolstad Meyer. He earned 12 varsity letters in three sports, baseball, basketball and football. He was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University where he earned his B.S. and was captain of the football team and a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Donald served in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 -1964 and the Reserves from 1964-1972. Donald was a commercial pilot with American Airlines for 31 years, where he was a Check Airman. He was the first pilot to fly the Airbus from France to the United States. He was predeceased by his wife Lynn Ann Graham Meyer. He was a member of Carteret Street United Methodist Church. Some of Donald’s interests were fishing, crabbing, shrimping, reading, bike riding, and boat riding looking for dolphin.

Donald is survived by two children Scott A. Meyer of Goshen, CT and Dean K. Meyer of Dataw Island, SC and two brothers Kenneth H. Meyer of Algoma, WI and John A. Meyer of Green Bay, WI.

A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m., Sunday January 5, 2025 at Carteret Street United Methodist Church, 408 Carteret Street Beaufort SC. Burial will be private.
