Donald Bolton Walker

Donald B. "Don" Walker was born in Troy, New York April 14, 1927, the son of Evelyn Boucher Walker and John "Bud" Walker. He graduated from Mechanicville High School in 1945 and served in the United States Navy during W.W. II. He attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and graduated from veterans Vocational School before joining Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation. He operated a hydroelectric power plant then became a consumer representative in customer relations in Gloversville, N.Y., until his retirement.

Don was a lifelong member of Memorial Baptist Church in Mechanicville, NY, where he sang in the choir, was Sunday School Superintendent, and served on many committees. He retired to Beaufort in 1993.

Don married the girl across the street, his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia Kiley Walker, who survives him. He is also survived by his son Christopher (Kathy), grandson Tyler and great grand-daughter Braylee Madison, all of Beaufort.

Don was devoted to music. He played classical piano, directed a Methodist Choir in Johnstown, NY, loved jazz and collected music all his life. Music underscores and defines his life and his soul. His memories of people, places and events he associated with music he heard at that time. His other love besides his family and friends was the railroad. He grew up in a railroad town and became a creative model railroader. Sailing, swimming, skiing, and hiking were activities he enjoyed.

Friends are invited to attend a graveside service at the Beaufort National Cemetery, 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 19th, and are welcome to a reception at his home at 4:00 p.m.
