Dorothy Ellen "Dottie" Eakin, 79, of Beaufort, passed away on Thursday, December 2nd, 2021, after a long illness.
Dottie was born in Abbeville, SC in 1942 to the late Ollie Nickles Eakin and Ellen Ferguson Eakin. After graduating from Beaufort High School in 1960, she received a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Erskine College.
She retired from John C. Calhoun Elementary in Calhoun Falls after a long career teaching primarily 5th grade at several schools, including elementary schools in Beaufort. Her love of children was always abundant, and she proudly watched many of them grow into lifelong learners.
Moving back to Beaufort in 2011, Dottie spent her final years in the devoted companionship of Emmitt Bufkin. Together they enjoyed creating recipe books and traveling.
Predeceased by her parents, one brother, Ollie Nickles Eakin, Jr., and one sister, Sue Ann Eakin Priester, she is survived by her niece, Leigh Copeland (Ryan) of Beaufort, her nephew, David Priester of Savannah, two grandnephews, Lukas and Reames Copeland, and one grandniece, Payton Priester.
Services will be graveside at 2 p.m. at Bells United Methodist Church in Abbeville on Monday, December 6.
