Doyle Lee Qualls died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, with his wife Norma Qualls by his side.
Doyle was born and raised in the farming community of Livingston, Tennessee where he worked on his family farm as a young person and later taught in a one-room schoolhouse. After marrying Norma, he and his family lived in Akron, Ohio and Bushnell, Florida before settling down in Beaufort–a place Doyle lovingly described as “the land of milk and honey.” Together the family started the construction and real estate companies Q-Enterprises and Norma Q Realty that went on to build and sell custom homes for the people of the Lowcountry for nearly 50 years and counting. Doyle was also a founding member of Community Bible Church, where he remained an active member throughout his life and could always be found popping popcorn at church functions.
Doyle enjoyed time with, and cooking for, his family and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as photography, scenic travel, and elaborate practical jokes. As a writer, Doyle captured his experiences growing up in Appalachia as well as his many insights from his years in business.
If you knew Doyle, you knew that nothing delighted him more than bringing an unexpected treat to your door. Whether you were his daughter-in-law, his banker, or the attendant at the local dump, a Bo-Berry Biscuit might end up in your lap.
Doyle is survived by his wife Norma Qualls, his sons Scott Qualls (Denise) and Bryan Qualls (Kathleen), his grandchildren Dustin Qualls, Michelle Panchuk (Yuriy), Ashley Qualls, Brandon Qualls (Llana), Grey Sun Qualls, Josh Qualls (Rebecca), Micah Qualls (Frances), Jesse Qualls (Lera), Zachary Qualls (Katlyn), and his great grandchildren Olive, Deacon, Levi, Judah, Quaid, Gabriel, Miroslava, Ike, Ruby Kay, Briggs, Leo, Sutter, Adeline, Bear, Emerson, Gideon, Ellie, Josie, Lydia, May, Rink, Bronson, and Darcy.
A memorial service at Community Bible Church will welcome his friends on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 at 11:00 AM. A private, family graveside service will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harvest of Hope Food Pantry, a ministry of Community Bible Church.
