Dr. Donald Henry Marx, 82, entered into rest on November 14, 2018, at his home on St. Helena Island, SC.
Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2018, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Lady's Island, SC, with full Untied States Marine Corps honors.
He was the son of Edmund Nicholas Marx and Francis Gorski Marx. Dr. Marx graduated from Benedictine Academy in Savannah, GA. He was conferred a Bachelor of Science by NC State University and a Doctorate in Plant Pathology by the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!). He was the recipient of the Marcus Wallenberg Prize, widely considered the Nobel Prize of Forestry and was presented the award by the King of Sweden. He served in the United States Marines and was retired from US Forest Service. Later went on to be one of the Founders of Plant Health Care, Inc.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Selina Van Giesen Marx and brother Frank Marx.
Survivors include siblings Howard, Eddie and Sharon; Sons Donnie and Frank; Daughters Selina, Tammy, and Beth; grandchildren: Leah, Selina, Kathleen, Meagan, Elliott, Austin and Hannah; and great-grandchildren Abby, Ashley, Axel, Tye, Lexie and Aria.
