Dr. James B. Ranger died at Beaufort Memorial Hospital on January 26, 2018. Dr. Ranger was born in Plainfield, NJ. December 8, 1927. He is the son of Alfred Harold Ranger Sr. and Margurete Innis Sinclair. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 60 years Jane Mawby Ranger, Two Brothers Alfred Ranger Jr and Donald Ranger who was killed in battle in Holland during WWII, and his daughter Kathy Ranger (Randy).
He is survived by his son, Brian Ranger (Lisa); two daughters, Suzanne Ranger and Dr. Monica Ranger; 4 grandchildren, Jimmy Ranger, Ryan Ranger, Dr. Henri Ranger, and Jennifer Ranger, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Jim began his career in the Navy V-5 pilot aviation program at the end of WWII. After the war, he attended undergrad at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. Following graduation, he attended Case Western Reserve Dental School. He graduated in 1956 and opened a dental practice in Freehold, NJ. In 1971, the Rangers decided to escape the cold and moved to Fripp Island. He opened a new practice on Lady's Island where he practiced until 1995. The practice is still open where Dr. Perry DuRant and Dr. Ashley Covington along with Lisa Ranger continue the legacy. After leaving private practice, Dr. Ranger returned to the Navy as a contract Dentist on Parris Island until full retirement in 2006. He spent the last years of his life caring for his wife who passed away one year ago.
Dr. Ranger loved telling stories to anyone who would lend him an ear. Special thanks to all who listened. A very special thanks to two loving caretakers, Nelly Zunun and Marie Garcia Morales.
A graveside service will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning, February 2, 2018, at Beaufort National Cemetery with Navy Honors.
