Elizabeth "Biz" Ward Campbell, 92, died peacefully at her home on Oak Grove Plantation June 27, 2014. Biz, as she was known, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one of 3 daughters of Charles and Virginia Ward. She joined the Red Cross during WWII, and met her husband Bill, a paratrooper, while aboard a troop transport ship. She was stationed in India and Bill in China. They married in Calcutta in 1945. After the war they returned to the family farm in Sheldon where she fell in love with the Low Country. In Beaufort, Biz became was known as one of the "Yankee Brides", along with her friends Madelaine Pollitzer and Harriet Keyserling. She created and ran a business, "Pixie Products", which manufactured unique gifts for the home and gave her an excuse to visit Atlanta and New York for the annual gift shows. Biz was a woman of tremendous energy and great humor. She had an army of friends, could give an oyster roast at a moment's notice, loved people and animals and truly never met a stranger. She volunteered tirelessly for any organization that helped others: Red Cross, Mobile Meals, Beaufort Memorial Hospital and St. Helena's Church. She was the Preservationist and Liaison for the Old Sheldon Church Ruins and spearheaded the effort to have Sheldon Church Road designated as a Historic Highway. She assisted with many projects within the Sheldon community and mentored countless young people. Biz was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Campbell, her son Rocky and her daughter Nan Kinsey. She is survived by her son Christopher and his wife Beth of Sheldon; 2 grandchildren Dax and Alicia, 3 great grandchildren, all of Conway, South Carolina; many nieces and nephews and her dog Bibbie. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 2 o'clock, at the Old Sheldon Church Ruins.
