ST. HELENA ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA - Emily Carol Grice, 82, of St Helena Island and wife of Frank Grice, died Monday, March 18, 2013 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Emily was born in 1930 in Phelps, New York, the daughter of Dr. Waldo B. and Amelia A. Cookingham. She graduated from Wooster College of Ohio and went on to obtain a Master of Early Education in New York. She had a career as an elementary school teacher and later as a real estate broker. She enjoyed a happy life together with her husband Frank raising two daughters and a son in Massachusetts. She was an expert gardener and cook, and loved to play bridge, read, visit the library, and participate in her church. She enjoyed many travel adventures with Frank visiting friends and relatives around the United States. They retired to St. Helena 1996, where she had many friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Russell, sister, Helen, and son, Andrew. She is survived by her husband, Frank; her two children, Janet Grice of Yonkers, New York and Nancy Grice and her husband, Bill Daly, of Andover, Maine; four grandchildren, Alex, Carrie, Travis and Skyler; one great-granddaughter, Alice, and many nieces and nephews. The memorial service will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, March 24, 2013,in the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship - 178 Sams Point Road, Lady's Island, South Carolina 29907. Interment will be private. Donations in memory of Emily Grice may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Beaufort, or to the St. Helena Branch Library (special funds).
