BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - Emma "Peggy" Rast Sanders died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Beaufort, SC.
Peggy was born in Swansea, SC on April 17, 1930. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles Lewis Rast and Marie Jackson Rast, as well as her husband, James Carlyle Sanders. She attended Queens College in Charlotte, NC and graduated from the University of South Carolina where she met her husband. Peggy taught elementary school in Charleston before moving to Beaufort and raising her family. She devoted her life to her husband, Jim, and cared for him during his lifetime. She also was a loving mother who showed much love and support to her children in all their activities. She was an active member at Carteret Street United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was head of Christian Education for many years and an active member of the Ouida Shearhouse Circle. Her civic activities included active membership in The Beaufort Garden Club (since 1955) and head of judges for the Beaufort Water Festival Beauty Pagaent for many years.
Peggy is survived by a brother, Charles Lewis Rast, Jr. (Sis) of Columbia, a sister, Thelma Rast of Swansea, and sons, Robert C. ( Terry) of Beaufort, their children Tiffany and Caroline, Donald R. (Michaelene) of Mt. Pleasant, their children Andrew, Ali, Claire and Patrick, and a daughter Janet S. MacDonald ( Richard) of Hilton Head, their children Sanders, Corey, and Taylor and also 3 great grandchildren.
Services will be 3 o'clock Friday afternoon, June 14, 2013, at Carteret Street United Methodist Church.
