First Sergeant William L. "Bill" Throne, United States Marine Corps, (Ret.), 85, of Beaufort, died Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at his residence. Mr. Throne was born March 30, 1931 in York, PA. He was a son of the late William L Throne Sr. and the late Rosella Ness Throne.  He graduated in 1949 from Will Penn Sr. High School, York, PA. Mr. Throne served 24 years active duty and 2 year reserves with the United States Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps, he served 1 tour of duty in Korea and 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Betty L. Throne; siblings, Thelma Faircloth Henise and Pearl Lau. Mr. Throne is survived by his children, Michael (Terri), Mark (Ana) and Bill (Rhonda), all of Beaufort; Scott (Tena) of Monks Corner and James K. Throne of Virginia Beach, VA; siblings, Philip (Dolores) Throne of York, PA, Barbara Crumbling of Dover, PA, and Sheila Winand of York, PA; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Copeland Funeral Service - One Copeland Drive, Beaufort. A graveside service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday, December 23, 2016, at Beaufort National Cemetery, with United State Marine Corps honors.
