On March 6, 2016, Frances McCloskey Kitchen, 87, of Beaufort, South Carolina passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter while under the care of Hospice.
Fran, as she liked to be called, was born October 4, 1928, in Beech Creek, Pennsylvania, to Joseph and Pearl McCloskey.
Fran worked outside the home at various jobs throughout her life while raising her family. She and her late husband Robert owned and operated a log cabin motel for twelve years in Augusta, Wisconsin prior to retiring. In 1987, they settled in South Carolina after doing a lot of traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert H. Kitchen, Jr; her son, Larry G. Kitchen; son-in-law Paul "Wayne" Young; her parents; two brothers, and five sisters.
Fran is survived by a son, Joseph H. Kitchen (Cindy), of Tripoli, Wisconsin; a daughter, Vicki Young, of Beaufort; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Fran was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She loved her Lord and was an active member of Port Royal United Methodist Church. Alzheimer disease is a thief, but it did not succeed in stealing the Lord's love from her heart!
The family would like to thank her Hospice nurse, Audrey; her Hospice CNA, Myrtis; her caregivers, Carla and Leola, who came through the Alzheimer's Family Services of Greater Beaufort, and caregiver and dear friend Tracey. The family also wishes to thank her Pastor, the Reverend Anne Bridgers and the love and support of her friends who also shared in her caregiving.
Memorials may be made to Port Royal United Methodist Church discretionary fund - Post Office Box 281, Port Royal South Carolina 29935 or Alzheimer's Family Services of Greater Beaufort - Post Office Box 1514, Beaufort South Carolina 29901.
In compliance with Fran's wishes, there will be no viewing or service at this time. At a future date, a private service with the family will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery, where she and her husband will be laid to rest.
