Gary E. Irvin of Beaufort, SC, formerly of Altoona PA went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 7, 2022. He was born March 1, 1947 in Altoona, Pa. He is the son of the Wilber E. and M. Lorraine Irvin. Gary married Tracie Cobb on December 19, 1992, who survived him after 30 years of marriage.
Gary was preceded in death by his brother Albert Irvin; sister Fayetta Irvin; and son Edward Irvin.
Gary is survived by five children Anthony Irvin, Elaine D. Cieslak, Gary J. Irvin, Devin Apgar and husband Sean, and Elyse Irvin; brother Ronald and his wife Ola; sister Nancy Irvin (King); 10 grandchildren; sister in laws Joyce Irvin, Deb Moore; daughter in law Wendy Coleman; 11 nieces and nephews; many cousins and Aunt Faye Stitt.
Gary was a graduate of Vestal High School, NY. He served 30 years in the USN, before retiring SHCM (sw) E-9. Gary was a member of 4th Street Church of God, Altoona, PA. He spent much of his retirement time flying gliders in Perkasie, PA and RC planes in Duncansville, PA with the Altoona RC Club. Gary was a member of the American Model Academy (AMA), American Legion Post 234, Souderton, PA., and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), in Altoona, PA.
Gary's favorite quote was 'Six feet above ground and still breathing, DANG IT!'
The family will receive friends 10:30 until 12:30 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Copeland Funeral Service.
A graveside service will be held 1:00p.m., Thursday, August 18th at Beaufort National Cemetery with United States Navy Honors.
