Genevieve A. Vislocky

Genevieve A. Vislocky, 92, of Port Royal, died Monday, September 12, 2016, at River Oaks Assisted Living, Port Royal, SC. Mrs. Vislocky was born July 21, 1924 in South Orange, New Jersey. She was a daughter of the late Catherine Hertling and Peter C. Hector. She grew up in South Orange, NJ. She lived most of her life in New Jersey with her husband, John Vislocky, Jr., and in 2005 they moved to Vermont. On August 19, 1944, Mrs. Vislocky enlisted in the Coast Guard during W.W. II. She was stationed in Atlantic City, NJ and Palm Beach FL, as a Radioman Third Class. She met her husband, of over 60 years, in the Coast Guard and they married September 27, 1947. Mrs. Vislocky attended South Orange High School. She sang in the church choir and was an accomplished roller skater and instructor. She was known for her beauty - Miss Irvington, NJ. In her adult life she was employed with Prudential Insurance Company and was a homemaker. Mrs. Vislocky volunteered singing in nursing homes and at the soup kitchen at Church. She was a very talented soprano singing in Church choirs as soloist as well as oratorios and opera in Morris County Chorale and Mad River Chorale throughout her lifetime. She was an excellent swimmer, known especially for her "floating." She was an avid tennis player and participated in the Senior Olympics winning in swimming, tennis, and track and field events. She was predeceased by her husband, John (April 18, 1921- May 02, 2013), and a sister, Gertrude Voigt (April 22, 1925 - December 21, 2010). Mrs. Vislocky is survived by her children, Barbara A. Clarke and husband, Walter Clarke II of St. Helena Island and John Vislocky III and wife, Jeannette, of Ogdensburg, NJ; grandchildren, John Julian Vislocky of Johns Island, SC and Rachel Vislocky of Ogdensburg, NJ; nieces and nephews, Patricia Markley, Peter Voigt, Joan York, John Superdock, and Denise Cuomo. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at St. James Orthodox Church - 1014 Charles Street, Beaufort, with Father James Bozeman officiating. Burial will be at 3 Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Northfield Falls Cemetery in Northfield, VT., with Father Mark Korban of St. Jacob Orthodox Church officiating.
