BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - George V. Snell, age 94, of Beaufort died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Summit Place. Services will take place at Sea Island Presbyterian Church on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private. Mr. Snell was born on November 19, 1917 in Madison, Wisconsin. He was the son of Walter Henry Snell and Adelaide Scott Snell. He was a graduate of Andover Academy and Brown University. Upon graduation, he volunteered for service during World War II and served with the Amphibian Engineers. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater where he served until 1945. He retired as Vice President of Human Resources of Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He served on numerous civic and charitable boards in Rhode Island and South Carolina. He was an avid sailor and a member of the Beaufort Power Squadron. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Doris Daly Snell and brothers Walter Scott Snell and Donald Francis Snell. He is survived by two daughters, Ann Mecherle and Patricia Barry, both of Beaufort, four grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital Foundation or Sea Island Presbyterian Church.
