BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - Goldie Levine, 92 of Beaufort, South Carolina died peacefully Monday evening, September 19, 2011 at her home. She was the widow of Martin Levine who passed away in 1980. Services and burial will be at the Beth Israel Cemetery, 906 Bladen Street at 12:30 pm on Wednesday. Her sons, Lester and Paul, and daughter, Sharon, will receive family and friends after the service at the social hall of Beth Israel Synagogue at 401 Scotts Street. The religious and personal remembrance ceremony called "Shiva" will be held at the Levine family home at 610 Center Drive West at 7PM Wednesday and Thursday. Mrs. Levine, born November 11, 1918 (the real Armistice Day) in New York City, was the daughter of the late Max and Leah Weitzner. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from New York University in 1940. She married Martin Levine in 1940. She moved to Beaufort with her husband, Marty, in 1950. They owned Martin's Men's Shop on Bay Street for over 30 years. She worked with her husband in the merchandising of the store. After she retired from her business she worked at the Beaufort Book store. She was an accomplished sculptress. She took classes at the Savannah Art College and studied on Hilton Head. She won several awards in local exhibitions. She expressed herself through her art. She also excelled at sewing and needlepoint. She loved to cook and bake. She delighted many with gifts of her treats She founded and led Beaufort's first Brownie troop. Mrs. Levine was active in the Beth Israel Synagogue Ladies Auxiliary and the AAUW. A devoted Mother and Grandmother, Mrs. Levine is survived by her three younger sisters, Faye Gold of Newton, MA, Shirley Engelmann of Columbus, OH and Honey Brier of  Philadelphia, PA; her sons, Paul Levine of New York, NY and Lester Levine of Chapel Hill, N.C; and her daughter, Sharon Conklin of Richmond, VA as well as five grandchildren.
