GySgt James 'Jim' Michael Carpenter, Sr., United States Marine Corps (Ret.), 61, of Beaufort, South Carolina and husband of Kelly Ann Rabbitt Carpenter, died peacefully Monday evening, February 5, 2018, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Born in Lansing, Michigan, he was a son of the late Thomas Arthur Carpenter and the late Marylou Parker Carpenter. Jim retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant after 21 years of service.
Surviving are his wife of over 14 years; children, Scott (Michelle) Campbell, James 'Jimi' (Kristi Lynn) Carpenter, Jr., Kelynda (Tommy) Edwards, Krystal (Curtis Looney) Mardon and Kevin (Lacy) Young; grandchildren, Alexys (Jason Frazier) Brown, Charles (Tiffany Jeannette) Brown, Alycia and OCory 'CJ' Freeman, Jr., Madyson and Harrison Mardon, Michael Campbell, and Stephen and Rebecca Carpenter; a great-grandchild, Ayda Freeman, three brothers and one step-sister.
A gathering of friends and family will begin at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, February 11, 2018, at AMVETS Post 70 in Port Royal.
