Helen Jane Paull

d. March 30, 2016

Helen Jane Paull, called Jane by all her friends, passed away on the morning of January 6, 2017 at her home on Dataw Island after a brief illness. While only a resident of Dataw for a brief 5 years Helen was an avid tennis player, a member of the Board of the Dataw Island Tennis Association, a member of the Board of the Dataw Island Yacht Club, and a member of the Board of the Dataw Island Garden Club. Jane was born on March 29, 1947 in Rugby, North Dakota to Roland A. Heringer and Margery R. Nelson. Jane grew up in Rugby and enjoyed spending summers with her sister and two brothers on Lake Metigoshe. When her father passed away in 1960, Jane's family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where she attended and graduated from Arcadia High School. She attended Williamette University in Salem, Oregon before attending a university near Nice, France. While living in France she studied language and liberal arts, becoming fluent in French and studying French literature. She then attended Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona where she graduated with her B.A.  While attending ASU, she met and married Kenneth Duane Paull. They had two daughters together and raised their family in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  While her daughters were young, Jane stayed home with them and filled their home with music, literature, art and lots of laughter. Jane later worked for the National Institutes of Health in grants administration. Her husband Kenny passed away in 1998. In 2010 Jane met Lee Scher and they were married in July 2011. She lived the remainder of her life enjoying Dataw Island. Jane was an active, intelligent, and talented woman. She excelled at anything she put her hand to. She played the flute and the piano and sang with a beautiful voice. She loved art and learned to paint and create in a variety of mediums. She loved to garden, play tennis, and was a phenomenal cook. Jane is survived by her husband, Lee Scher of Dataw Island, South Carolina; her daughters, Lisa C. Paull of Richmond, Virginia and Amy E. Jensen of Gilbert, Arizona; her brothers, John Heringer of San Jose, California and Bill Heringer of Siesta Key, Florida; and her grandchildren, Andrew Jensen, Lizzy Jensen, Kate Jensen, Ethan Jensen, Adelyne Hall.  Her extended family included Lee's 3 children and 6 grandchildren. She is loved and cherished by many and we will miss her beautiful laughter. A Celebration of Jane's Life at the Dataw Island Club will be held this spring when her beloved flowers are at full bloom.
