Howard Phillip 'Phil' Hawley, 83, of Dataw Island, died suddenly Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Phil was born in Toledo, Ohio and was a 40 year employee of Gulf-Chevron Oil Company stationed in the areas of Ohio, Michigan, and Maryland. He was an avid golfer; starting as a caddy at the age of 10, before becoming a Senior Club Champion at the Bay Hill Country Club in Arnold, MD and a three time Club Champion at Dataw Island.
Phil leaves behind a devoted wife Shirley and three devoted children, Cathy Hopkinson and Brian Hawley, both of Seattle WA, and Scott Hawley of Ft. Meyers FL. He was a loving stepfather to Martha Gay Praschak of New Church, VA, Melanie Evans of Annapolis, MD, and Craig A. Scott of St Luis Obispo, CA. Phil was also the proud grandfather to Amanda, Michelle and Adam, and great-grandfather to Layla and Ayden.
Phil and Shirley relocated to Dataw Island upon their retirement.
At Phil's request, there will be no formal funeral service arranged. Friends and neighbors are invited to visit the family home on Friday, November 2nd from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Gate passes will be provided.
