Reverend Hoyt Graham, Jr, 98, of Beaufort, South Carolina passed away at home in the late evening of August 26, 2022.
He is survived by his children, Sandy Somerall (Rick) of Beaufort, and Tim Graham (Susan) of Easley, three grandchildren, Sally Somerall of Columbia, Graham Somerall (Erin) of Beaufort, and Trent Graham (Kara) of Easley, and four great-grandsons, Tanner and Brenton Graham, and Charlie and Teddy Somerall. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years, Imogene Graham, and his grandson, Matthew Graham.
Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Hoyt was the son of Etta Pauline Lankford and Hoyt Graham, Sr. After attending West Gantt High School, he served in the United States Navy during World War II, a proud member of the Greatest Generation. He married Imogene Holder in Greenville, South Carolina on June 15, 1944. Following his service, Hoyt served as a salesman and then Vice President of a food brokerage company in Greenville. In 1957, he entered the ministry as a member of the South Carolina Methodist Conference, and was a 1961 graduate of Furman University in the first class to matriculate on the present-day campus. For 30 years, Reverend Graham was a member of the South Carolina Methodist Conference. He served churches in Greenville, Greenwood, Newberry, Lancaster, Ridgeland, and Denmark. Reverend Graham was a Life Member of the Free Masons of the Dunean Lodge No. 359.
In the 1980s, Hoyt enjoyed renovating his home in Cokesbury, SC and restoring antiques. He and Imogene loved traveling in a series of evermore sophisticated RVs, and visited all 50 states during retirement. They spent twenty-six winters as Snowbirds camping and fishing at Lake Okeechobee, Florida. Affectionately called 'Pop' by his grandchildren, he enjoyed a brief stint playing with acrylic paints and was a lifetime, avid reader. He will be remembered for his encouraging spirit, unyielding faithfulness, and devotion to Imogene.
There will be a private burial for family at The National Cemetery in Beaufort on Thursday, September 1, followed by a worship service at 3:00pm at Carteret Street United Methodist Church. Visitation and a reception will immediately follow the service at the home of Rick and Sandy Somerall.
