BEAUFORT SC AND PEMBROKE ME - Hugh Asher Stubbins III, 80, passed away February 3, 2020, in Beaufort SC. Born June 30, 1939 in Boston, Massachusetts, he grew up in the Boston area attending the Cambridge School of Weston, going on to study medicine at the University of Buffalo in New York. Ultimately he gravitated towards architecture and went to Harvard University's Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he received his Master of Architecture.

An accomplished designer and renderer Hugh practiced as a licensed architect for many years on both coasts enjoying a successful partnership in his own firm, Rhode/Stubbins; as well as working for notable firms like The Architects Collaborative; Perkins and Will Group; and his father's firm, Hugh Stubbins and Associates. Hugh also proudly served his country in Vietnam as a Captain in the United States Air Force.

Hugh was a natural born pilot who had a passion for airplanes and also enjoyed traveling, painting, and art. He is remembered as a generous, kind, patient, and talented person who loved his extended family and his many greyhounds.

Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Edie Groden; his three sons Adam, Kurt, and Christopher Stubbins; his sister Patricia Minot; and brothers Peter and Michael Stubbins; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will surely be missed.

A private graveside service and interment will be held in Lexington, Massachusetts this spring followed by a Celebration of Life gathering for friends and family.
