DATAW ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA - Jim Barrett, 89, currently of Beaufort, SC (formerly of Toledo, OH) passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Jim was born August 7, 1922 in Toledo, OH, son of the late Irma Wolfe Barrett and the late James Barrett. He was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School in Toledo, OH and attended Toledo University, now University of Toledo. He later joined the United States Navy during WWII and served as a pilot and also trained fighter pilots. After honorably serving his country for 4 years, he decided to work for the family business, Barrett Battery. As his career progressed, Jim became the President of the business and boosted it's success by expanding its presence into Mexico. He later sold the company and pursued his art passion by opening his own gallery, J. Barrett Galleries. Although successful, he returned to his roots by starting his own industrial battery business, Flowsystems. He functioned as Owner and President until his passing. He is survived by his bride of 55 years, Ursula Reinemuth Barrett, son Jim (Kim), daughter Susan Riedmayer (Mike), son Drew (Megan), son Matt (Jill), 8 grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Mary Surface and Bonnie James. A private memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2011 in Beaufort, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Beaufort, SC Humane Society. As we will always love and remember Jim, his love for animals will continue through your contributions.
