The leader of the band is tired and his eyes are growing old. But his blood runs through our instruments and his song within our souls..."
James Frederick BAUER, (Jimmie) 65, of Beaufort, SC, moved heavenward July 6, 2015, after an 18 month battle with lung cancer. He was born July 21, 1949, in Newark, NJ, and is survived by his wife, Kathleen V. Bauer, his son James J. Bauer, (his fiancé Ellen Starling) his daughter Caryn Bauer Carper (husband Gabe Carper), and his two grandsons, Micah and Rowan Carper who believe their "Pop Pop" hung the moon and whom they aspire to be like as they grow.
Jimmie loved God, his country, his family, working with his hands, working outdoors, caring for creatures big and small, and listening to great music.
Jimmie was a paratrooper in the United States Army and served bravely in the Vietnam War, where he earned three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star, among several other distinguished honors.
A private burial with Army Honors will be held Thursday, July 9th, at the Beaufort National Cemetery. A memorial service for all friends and family honoring a hero's life will be held Friday, July 10, from 6-8 p.m. at the Copeland Funeral Service Chapel in Beaufort.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 12, Beaufort, P.O. Box 392, Port Royal, SC 29935.
