James Ueligitone, 81 of Beaufort, died Thursday, April 18, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Sua James MisaaleFua Ueligitone, was born on December 18th, 1942, on the island of Ofu, Manu'a tele, American Samoa. He was the 8th child of 12 children, from Paniani Ueligitone and Mafola Palega.
He spent a life time devoted to his wife and children. While living in California, during the early 80's, he was employed in the San Pedro shipyard as a pipe fitter. He returned to American Samoa, with his family in 1985. He was employed and eventually retired from the American Samoa Power Authority. He spent his retirement running his own landscaping business and handling other business ventures for his family. In 2010, he received the title of Sua, attached to the village of Ofu - Manu'a tele and worked along with Samoan Affairs.
During his battle with dementia, his wife remained faithfully by his side tending to his needs during the whole time. Accompanied by his wife and oldest daughter, Agaaletupu, he came to Beaufort, South Carolina to live with his children, Papu and Mayline in 2022. He was surrounded by the love of his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the time of his passing.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Naoafioga Ueligitone of the Village of Leone, American Samoa. His brother Tone Ueli and sister Tipesa Molio'o, both of Los Angeles, California. His brother losefa Wellington and sister Seuitiamia Sea, both of Seattle, Washington. 5 Children, Papu Tafao, Agaaletupu Ueligitone, Faleilelagi Ueligitone of Beaufort, SC; Benjamin Ueligitone of Pooler, GA; Mafolaalela McNeil of Camp Humphreys, South Korea; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A small service will be held at 11 o'clock on Saturday, May 11th, 2024 at Copeland Funeral Service in Beaufort, SC. The final service will be held at a later date in the Village of Leone, American Samoa.
