Jean Norton-Torjussen, 69, of Beaufort, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 3.
Born in Chicago, Jean held many professional positions in her career but was most proud of her two passions; writing and art, with her tenure as a Lifestyle Editor at the Progress Newspaper in Caldwell, NJ and a Japanese watercolorist at ARTworks in Beaufort, SC. Formerly of Essex Fells, NJ, Jean was an avid gardener, loved the game of golf, her canine companion Henry, and spending time with family and friends.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Jean P. and William F. Norton, and her sister Barbara Colpitts Ahner.
She is survived by her brother Bill Norton and his wife Barbara of Stephens City VA, sister Mary E. Norton of Beaufort, SC, nieces and nephews Robert Colpitts of NY, NY, Matthew J. Colpitts and his wife Jessica of Hamlin, PA, Elizabeth Colpitts of West Palm Beach, FL, and Jason W. Norton and his wife Natalie of Middletown, VA. Her step-children Kristine McIntyre and her husband James, of Lincoln Park, NJ, Martin Torjussen, Jr. and his wife Meredith of West Caldwell, NJ, Meghan Platow and her husband Derek of South Portland ME, and Kyle Torjussen and his wife Lauren of Glen Ridge, NJ.
A service in her memory will take place at First Presbyterian Church in Beaufort, 1201 North St, on Thursday, May 10 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Trinity-St. John's Church, Hewlett, N.Y. at a date to be determined.
