BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA -  John Ellington White, 87, of Beaufort, South Carolina, husband of Ellen White, died Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.





Born June 9, 1924, in Anderson, South Carolina, he was the son of John Ellington White, Sr. and Julia Easter White. Ellington graduated from Kenyon College and received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Johns Hopkins University. He was a professor of English and creative writing and former editor of The Kenyon Review.  Upon retirement, he and his wife, Ellen, moved back to South Carolina. Ellington was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. His interests included fly-fishing, sailing, and the coast of South Carolina. Ellington was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Farley.





He is survived by his wife, Ellen; a son, David (Gloria) White; two daughters, Nancy White and Susan (Ben) White-Kitchen; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Julian Lipscomb; three grandchildren, Ryan, Andrew and Isaac, as well as nieces and nephews.
