BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - Joseph Scott Stowe, 43, of Beaufort, South Carolina, husband of Frances Jeter Stowe, died Monday, August 29, 2011.
He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on December 28, 1967, the son of Janice Williams Stowe and Joseph Sloan Stowe. He grew up in Belmont, NC, and graduated from Gaston Day School. A graduate of Wofford College, he joined Wachovia Bank in 1990 and was currently serving as Market President for the Beaufort area. An avid sportsman, he found it hard to leave the creeks and rivers, but he was too grateful to the people and the place he found here not to get involved in efforts that helped the community. He was active with the United Way for over twenty years, currently serving as the Chairman of the Board for the United Way of the Lowcountry. A lifetime Presbyterian, he was a stalwart member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort, where he served as a deacon and an elder. He was a member of the Beaufort Memorial Hospital Foundation Board for ten years, serving as its Chairman from 2006-2010.
Scott, affectionately known as "Stowe" by family and friends, was a devoted husband and father.
Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are his daughter, Frances Harling Stowe, and son Joseph Scott Stowe, Jr.; sister Leslie Stowe Culp and her husband Robert George Culp IV of High Point, North Carolina; sister Susannah Stowe Rose and her husband Caldwell Ragan Rose of Charlotte, North Carolina; sister-in-law Anne Jeter Lindsay and her husband William Shannon Lindsay, Jr. of Beaufort, South Carolina; in-laws Mr. and Mrs. Russell L.
