We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Joshua Charles Shipley, 18, of Seabrook, South Carolina. On March 8, 2023, Joshua walked into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, while studying abroad in Costa Rica. Joshua was born in Beaufort, South Carolina, to Sean and Misty (Langford) Shipley on December 28, 2004. He graduated early from Bridges Preparatory Highschool and chose to further his education at Colegio Tecnico Professional Ricardo Castro Beer in Orotina, Costa Rica.
Joshua was a beloved son, brother, and friend to many. He enjoyed playing his guitar, photography, and wrestling. No matter what room he walked into, he lit it up. He was always caring and compassionate to others in any circumstance or situation. The stories that other have been sharing with us about our Joshua over the past few days have been incredibly heartwarming. We never knew how many people he had touched. That was what separated Josh from the rest. He didn’t seek the pat on the back or the praise for being a good person. He moved in silence and moved with sincerity. Truly caring for others and putting them before himself without hesitation. Although Josh was young, he was so advanced in his years.
He planned to return to the United States in July to join the Air Force. Our lives will be forever changed, but we will never let his memory fade.
Joshua is survived by his loving parents, Sean and Misty, four siblings, Jessica, Jenna, Justin and Jonathan, beloved uncles, aunts, cousins, many friends, and his dear girlfriend, Veronica Capps.
Family and friends are welcomed to attend funeral services, which will be held at Beaufort Memorial Gardens - 1 Copeland Drive - on March 18th at Noon. Immediately following the service, the family is extending an invitation to attend a Celebration of Life at, 67 Gillison Branch Road, Robertville, SC 29922. In lieu of flowers, we ask that all donations be made to Bridges Preparatory Athletics in memory of Joshua Shipley. BPS Athletics, 555 Robert Smalls Parkway, Beaufort, SC 29906.
