A Beaufort native and retired attorney, Julian S. Levin died peacefully on September 24th, 2015, surrounded by his family. Born in 1921, Julian was a graduate of Beaufort High School and received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Carolina. His education was interrupted in December of 1942, when he joined the US Navy during World War II. Julian served as a Navigations Officer and later as a Beach Commander in the Pacific. In 1948, he began his legal career in Beaufort and was honored by the South Carolina Bar Association for practicing in the state for more than 50 years. Julian's community leadership included serving as President of the Beaufort Bar Association, Chairman of the Board of the Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club, and Board member of Historic Beaufort and Open Land Trust. He also received the Beaufort Rotary Club Bowl for Distinguished Civic Service. In addition, Julian served on the Beaufort County School Board, and as a volunteer fireman for many years. An inspirational family man, a committed civic leader, an authentic patriot, and an enthusiastic outdoorsman, Julian loved life and was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Renee, four children, and eight grandchildren.
A private family memorial service is planned. A reception will be held Sunday, September 27th from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at 156 Spanish Point Drive, Beaufort, South Carolina. Copeland Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
