"SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW, WAY UP HIGH, THERE'S A LAND THAT I HEARD OF ONCE IN A LULLABY. SOMEDAY I'LL WISH UPON A STAR AND WAKE UP WHERE THE CLOUDS ARE FAR BEHIND ME. WHERE TROUBLES MELT LIKE LEMON DROPS AWAY ABOVE THE CHIMNEY TOPS...THAT'S WHERE YOU'LL FIND ME."
Kathleen Virginia Bauer (Burns), 66, of Beaufort, SC, moved heavenward Friday, April 15, 2016, after many years of battling Multiple Sclerosis. Kathy was born in Queens, NY, on October 20, 1949, and is survived by her son James Jason Bauer (wife Ellen Bauer), her daughter Caryn Bauer Carper (husband Gabe Carper), and her two grandsons, Micah and Rowan Carper who believe their "YaYa" was the best kind of fun and the most loving grandma ever to exist.Kathy loved the Lord, loved her husband before and after his passing with an unmatched fierceness and dedication, and loved her children and grandchildren in mighty ways.
She loved to sing, to dance, and to laugh, and could light up even the darkest spaces with her sense of humor and contagious laugh. Though living with more pain than the average person could ever imagine, Kathy's inner strength and faith held her upright for many, many years.
Kathy began working at age 17 on Wallstreet in Manhattan and was known through the years by her coworkers to be as intelligent as she was beautiful. After having a family, she chose to work nights to be available to her children for any and every need, something her children will never forget. As life permitted, Kathy volunteered for various organizations, served as a substitute teacher and teacher assistant in her childrens' schools, and helped manage antique stores as opportunities arose. It may be more fitting to simply describe her as FRIEND to everyone.
A memorial will be held Tuesday, April 19, from 5-6 p.m. at Copeland Funeral Home, followed by a service and a celebration of a life well lived at 6 p.m., also at Copeland Funeral Home. Burial will follow Wednesday, April 20, at the Beaufort National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband James F. Bauer, whom she joined in spirit on their wedding anniversary the day she left the Earth.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Kathleen Bauer's name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O Box 4527, New York, NY 10163. Donations by phone should be directed to 1-800-344-4867.
