Linda Watts Brown

October 17, 1942 — April 15, 2025

Beaufort

Linda Watts Brown was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to Ann and Al Watts on October 17, 1942. She lived in Little Rock with her mother and grandmother during the war years. Her father then went to work for S H Kress and made many moves in her childhood. They lived in Shreveport, LA; Helena, AK; Greenwood, SC; and Orangeburg, SC before they came to Charleston where Linda started Bishop England High School in 1956. During these moves Linda and family made many forever friends along the way.

Linda went to Marywood College in Scranton, PA for four years, graduating with a BA in mathematics and a minor in secondary education and Latin in 1964. She remembers well how much snow came every winter and how cold it was.

She met her future husband, George Bowman Brown, in the summer before her senior year on a blind date. They were engaged on the 4th of July, the next year and married in 1965. It was the best decision she made.

Linda taught at her alma mater, Bishop England, for one year before marriage.

Life started off with a great adventure. She and George left to live in Japan in December 1965 and stayed until 1970. While there, their two daughters were born. This was before cell phones and face time, so it was hard to be away from families.

When they came back to the States, they lived in Beaufort, SC. Their son, Tim, was born in 1971. After the children were in school, Linda began her career as a teacher. She taught at Port Royal Elementary for part of a year, then went to the old Beaufort Junior High School. She taught at Lady’s Island Middle School the first year they opened. In 1985, she began teaching at Beaufort Academy for 20 years. While there, she taught in the math department, coached the math team, sponsored the Model U.N., and sponsored the student government.

Her best achievements were her children and grandchildren Elizabeth (Allan) Snyder, Jennifer (Dave) Johnson, and Tim (Susan) Brown. Her wonderful grandchildren: Sam (Hailey) Johnson, Will Johnson, Joe Snyder, Tim Johnson, Chas Brown, Anna Brown, Caroline Johnson, Maggie Brown, Kate Brown, and Sophie Brown.

Linda has been a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church since 1970. She was Co-Chairwoman of the Bazaar, member of the Catholic Woman’s Club, and offertory counter. She spent over 30 years as an adorer in the Adoration Chapel.

A memorial mass for Linda will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 21, 2025 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 70 Lady’s Island Drive. Inurnment will follow at the Church columbarium. Following the service a reception will be held in the church’s fellowship hall.
