Linda "Joy" Logan-Smith

Linda 'Joy' Laliberte Logan-Smith, 70, of Lobeco, died peacefully Sunday, August 13, 2017 surrounded by her loved ones after a brief illness.

Joy was born in Utica, NY to the late Mary Brinson of Walterboro and Albert Gervais Laliberte, USMC Ret. of Providence, RI.

Raised as a military child, Joy learned early on the gift of never meeting a stranger. She had the kindest heart and would give you the clothes off her back if you needed it. Joy was a loving, caring, and responsible sister to her siblings. She cared for and guided family members through childhood and into adulthood with such a willing and successful conclusion that a special bond now exists that is beyond comparison.

She started a very honorable and distinguished career at an early age providing additional support for the family under the watchful eye of her mother who instilled in her a structured work ethic. For 48 years she remained faithful to her work all while raising her children, and serving her community through the Rotary Club, as an Elder of First Presbyterian Church, as a chaperone of the Pirettes, through CODA, and many other wonderful organizations. But what she was most proud of in her career was serving as Beaufort Country Treasurer for over 20 years. She had a very kind heart and would work thoughtfully and tirelessly to help those that needed it as best she could. She loved Beaufort and all its residents with all of her heart and was proud to serve them. She especially cared for those that worked for her and with her as they became like family.

As a child she loved her horses and competing in rodeos. As an adult she traded in the ranes for a fishing pole, a cast net, or crab line. Many hours were spent with her children, family and friends in the creek by her home catching shrimp, crabs and drum. She could clean a crab better than anyone around; her crab cakes and shrimp dip were always a treat to anyone she served them to.

She especially loved her lifelong friends of Beaufort High's TW Class of '65. She has served on just about every reunion committee and has hosted countless events at her home. It was a great 'Joy' to her life to be surrounded by such wonderful friends.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Sammie Smith.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mel Logan Middleton and her husband Michael of Greenville, SC and Evelyn Logan Kuhn and her husband Andrew of Hobart, NY, and her stepdaughter Judy Smith Hizer and her husband Dave of Aurora, IN. She will forever be remembered as 'Granny' by her little princesses and princes; Mary Michael Middleton, Henry Kuhn, Charlie Kuhn, Benjamin Middleton, and Sally Kuhn. She was a loving and guiding sister to Albert Lee Laliberte and his wife Linda of Grays, SC, JoAnn Laliberte Peeples of Charleston, SC and Todd Alan Laliberte and his wife Rainey of Florence, SC. She was 'Aunt Joy' to Carmen, Sheldon, Shana, Chad, Brinson, Bryce, Eric, Paige and Scott; all of who considered her a second mother. She will be remembered as great 'Aunt Joy' to Madison, Teghan, Tristen, Amelia, Baxton and Waylen.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Copeland Funeral Service, One Copeland Drive.

Following a private committal at The National Cemetery, a Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 17, 2017 at The First Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive guests immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
