Richard "Dick" Thompson Howard Jr, age 93, of Beaufort, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on September 8, 2020.
Richard was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 20, 1927. He graduated from West Philadelphia High and went on to get his BA from Westchester College, after serving as a Lt in the US Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill during WWII. He made a career as a newspaper's publisher's representative for a number of papers in and around Philadelphia. He married Nancy Jane Schlichter. They raised their 2 children, first in Center City Philadelphia and later in Bucks County. He, his wife Nancy and son Richard relocated to Beaufort, South Carolina in 1998, having loved spending time on Harbor and Fripp Islands.
Richard is survived by his two sisters, Helen Zanas and Elizabeth Ann Reed; his two children, Richard T. Howard III of Beaufort and Gretchen H. Tara of California; his son-in-law, Roopinder Tara, and his two grandchildren, Nicholas Tara and Elaine Tara.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, in 1999.
Richard was an athletic young man, a brave sailor, a loving husband and father, a well-loved neighbor and friend with a larger-than-life personality, and a lover of all animals.
