Lt. Col (retired) Mark Gaetan Schuster
4-30-47 - 11-10-17
Son of William A. Schuster and Evelyn Ivone Schuster, Mark grew up in Mentor, Ohio, graduated from Washington and Lee University and received a Master's Degree from The Ohio State University.
Our captain passed away on Veteran's day (observed). And while he never intended a military career, it provided him with some of the best times and friends in his life.
After his time as a Naval Aviator, he spent 15 years with the Ohio Air National Guard. His love of flying led him to a career with United Airlines where he ended up flying his favorite airplane, the 747, to the Pacific.
Living life to the fullest, Mark enjoyed motorcycles at the track, going cross-country and riding the back roads in Ohio. He loved flying: whether it was fighter jets, 747's or gliders, he was all in. Sailing on the Great Lakes, the Scioto River, the Morgan River or the Atlantic Ocean gave him great joy.
Retirement led him to the lowcountry so that he could pursue his favorite activities: sailing, tennis, cars and warm, sunny weather. Mark never tired of the beauty of the place we called home.
Throughout his travels, he never met a stranger. His outgoing friendly manor allowed him to talk with anyone and over the years he met many interesting people.
Mark is survived by his wife, Brooke; daughter, Allyson; brother, Bob (Suzanne); sister-in-law Carol Warnick (Ed); and nieces and nephews. He lived a life full of laughter, adventure, speed and love. He was the best of the best and will be missed dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
