On May 7th 2017 God Called Major Ready home to stand guard at Heavens Gates. Major Ready was born in Sewickley, PA. His childhood was spent in Baden, PA.
He was preceded in death by his father John T. Ready, his mother Anna Margaret Leseiko and his sister Catherine A Ready. He leaves behind a sister Patricia M Ready McNulty Krier from Palm Desert, CA and a brother Michael P. Ready from Lawrenceville, GA.
Major Ready graduated from Freedom High School in Freedom, PA, after which he attended the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL In 1967, he graduated boot camp at Parris Island, SC, before going on to Quantico, VA and becoming a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps. He did two tours in Vietnam, 1969-1970. In 1973-74 he became a Peace Keeping Officer for the United Nations, on the Golan Heights. While there, he met his wife of 42 years, Beatrix Kool.
He had four children, John Shelly, Brian, and Matt and seven grandchildren, Tamara, Olivia, Wyatt, Bella, Koela, Emmie, and Eli. He loved all of his family with his whole heart. He would light up every time his grandchildren would see him.
Major Ready traveled to over 32 countries and received extensive rewards. He had a rifle expert badge 4th award, Pistol Sharp shooter badge, National Defense Service medal, Letter of Appreciation 6th award, Combat Action Ribbon, Purple Heart, Vietnam Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon , Letter of commendation, Bronze star, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation, Gallantry Cross color 1st class with Palm and frame, Vietnam Service medal 6th award, Navy unit commendation with 2 stars, United Nations medal, Meritorious unit commendation and the Meritorious service medal.
His last duty station was back where his career started but this time as a Major at HQ Parris Island, where he was responsible for the security in 1986 for our President of the United States; President Reagan who was visiting Parris Island at that time. Major Ready retired in 1989. He eventually became supervisor of Child Protective Services in Beaufort, SC where he loved the children who walked thru his doors and needed help. His hobbies were his family, fly fishing, and watching his beloved Steelers. He was always there for anyone who needed him. He also loved his family at St. Peters Catholic Church, where he was a lecture and Eucharistic minister.
The visitation will be from from 4 until 5:30 Tuesday afternoon, May 16, 2017, at Copeland Funeral Service - One Copeland Drive, with his son, Brian, and his grandson, Wyatt, speaking at 5:30 followed by a Rosary service for Major Ready.
His funeral will be Wednesday may 17th at 10:30 at St Peters Catholic Church with a burial with full military honors at Beaufort National Cemetery.
After the burial, there will be a gathering for all family and friends at Major Ready's home at 5910 Pleasant Farm Drive, Beaufort, SC.
